Feb. 11-14, 2016 Wings of Freedom Tour, Venice Municipal Airport, 400 Airport Ave. East Venice
The Collings Foundation presents the 2016 Wings of Freedom Tour at the Venice Municipal Airport with the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress “Nine-O-Nine”, Consolidated B-24J Liberator “Witchcraft”, North American B-25J Mitchell “Tondelayo” and the dual-control North American P-51C Mustang “Betty Jane”.
Visitors will be allowed to tour the outside of all of the aircraft and enter and walk through the interior of the B-17 and B-24 for a nominal donation of $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. All World War II veterans are admitted free to the ground visit. Walk through tour times (no reservations needed): Feb. 11 - 2pm to 4:30pm, Feb. 12 - 9am to 4:30pm, Feb. 13 - 9am to 4:30pm and Feb. 14 - 9am to 12pm.

Start times: 5k run @ 8:00 am; 10K run @ 8:15 am
The Scrub Jay races benefit Friends of Oscar Scherer Park, Inc. which supports the park through charitable, scientific, literary and educational functions and through programs, activities and fund raising to foster awareness of its importance as an environmental and recreational asset and to assist in conserving its natural and cultural resources. An educational and fun program, Sidewalk Astronomy, is presented by a local group, the Deep Sky Observers. Once a month in different locations around Sarasota such as Riverview High School and Lakewood Ranch, the group sets up their telescopes so attendees can view whatever is visible in the night sky on that particular evening. It’s a great way to introduce astronomy to children as well as brush up on your star-spotting skills. In addition, Deep Sky Observers also sets up for special happenings like lunar eclipses. What a wonderful way to enjoy the pleasant weather, under a star-filled Sarasota sky. Feb. 14, 2016 Celebrate Valentine’s Day by renewing vows on the beach at sunset!
Romance is in the air during the annual ceremony, held on the powdery white sands of Siesta Key Beach, or, in Venice at Venice Beach. Each Valentine's Day, hundreds of couples renew their commitment as part of Sarasota County’s popular "Say I Do Again" wedding vow renewal.
"Say 'I Do' Again" is a non-denominational service performed by magistrates. Arrive as early as 4:30 p.m. to check in and receive your commemorative certificate, a special gift and flower. Music on the beach begins at 5 p.m. with the ceremony beginning promptly at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per couple and pre-registration is required by Feb. 10. For details call 941-861-7275.
