As is usually the case, Sarasota is delighting residents and visitors with artsy and community driven events designed to inspire and delight you. St. Armands Circle is always a pleasure to visit, and makes an extra special backdrop for one of the year’s most notable art festivals. The sights and sounds of the Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival will be a stimulus to all of your senses, making that dreaded return to work on Monday, a little less painful. So get out there and enjoy all that your beautiful city by the bay has to offer, as we make our way into February.
Jan. 30-31, 13th Annual St. Armands Circle Art Festival, St Armands Circle, Sarasota, Free Event
You can’t beat a day at St. Armands Circle, perusing the specialty shops and amazing selection of eateries. On the last weekend of January, you will be treated to the 13th Annual St. Armands Circle Art Festival, recognized by the Sunshine Artist’s Magazine as one of the top art shows in the country. Drawing artists from around the nation, amazing pottery, sculptures, paintings, jewelry and more will be available for purchase. Check out some of the hottest artists in the country at this local festival, sure to become your favorite winter event. Festival hours will be 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday. Jan. 30, Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival, Sarasota Fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota
Come join the celebration and immerse yourself in kilts, dance, bagpipes and a day of fun at the 22nd Annual Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival. Gather up your Scottish friends or make some new acquaintances as you enjoy the festival, sampling food and loving the merriment as you listen to the haunting tones of the Scottish bagpipes. Watch athletic competitions in distance throw, Scottish hammer throw, caber toss, sheaf toss, and weight for height. An amateur piping and drumming competition will also be held, culminating with the 3rd Annual Roddy Macdonald Professional Piping Competition “Grand All Together.” The events are a tribute to Roddy MacDonald, who had a great passion for playing the bagpipes. Run for a GOOD cause to support local schools on Saturday, January 30th, With a 5K run/walk, 1/2 mile kids run and 1/2 mile dog walk, this event is fun for the whole family, including four-legged members.
