Sarasota Open Comes to Longboat Key

Posted by See Sarasota Live on

The Sarasota Open is once again coming to the prestigious Longboat Key Club and Resort, this year from April 13th to April 21st.

Since 2009, the Longboat Key Club and Resort has hosted the Open, southwest Florida’s top tennis event. Some changes are in store for the 2013 Open, including a new additional event and a heftier prize purse. A women’s invitational tournament featuring 16 top WTA/USTA players, named the Nick Bollettieri Sarasota Women’s Open, will take place this year alongside the ATP/USTA Men’s Invitational Tournament. The Men’s Tournament will be increasing last year’s $75,000 prize purse to $100,000 for the 2013 champion.

The green clay courts at the beautiful Longboat Key Club and Resort’s award-winning Tennis Gardens are the site of the Sarasota Open, which is part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger Tour. Last year’s runner-up, fan favorite Paolo Lorenzi, will return for the 2013 Open. Lorenzi just completed his finest season on the ATP Tour and achieved a recent doubles victory over Rafael Nadal in the VTR Chile Open. Jhonatan González, 19, of Venezuela, the winner of this year’s Sarasota Open Wild Card Tournament, will also play, but insiders believe Lorenzi is the player to watch this year.

The Resort At Longboat Key

Tickets and rooms at the Resort are expected to sell quickly. The bleachers at the Tennis Gardens were filled with more than 33,000 fans last year, and this year’s attendance figure is expected to be still higher. The Sarasota Open is the premiere sports event on Longboat Key, attracting top players from around the world on both the ATP and WTA tours. Fans will have their chance to mingle with the stars at the Sarasota Open Players Party, April 16th at the Tennis Gardens.

The Longboat Key Club and Resort is the only AAA Four-Diamond beachfront resort in the Sarasota area. Guests arriving for the Sarasota Open will also be able to play challenging golf on the Club’s pair of acclaimed championship courses. The Resort’s guests are pampered; they’ll also be able to enjoy the full-service spa and the many superlative amenities. A heated pool and 6 restaurants are also on-site. Tickets to the Sarasota Open and reservations at the Longboat Key Club and Resort are available at the Club and Resort, online, or by phone, but fans need to act quickly. The 2013 Sarasota Open kicks off on Saturday, April 13th and runs through April 21st.
