Weekend Forecast: Arts, Jazz, Food

With the cooler temperatures setting the stage, an Art Walk, outdoor music and several festivals are piquing our interest for this coming weekend. Living in such a culturally diverse area full of arts and lively events makes the weekends interesting and fun.
If you haven’t experienced it yet, “Live from Downtown-It’s Friday Night” is happening this Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Towles Court. Enjoy the Art Walk featuring several medians of artwork as you stroll the area visiting the unique galleries, restaurants and businesses that stay open for the event.
The highly-acclaimed Ringling International Arts Festival runs October 15 through October 18. Enjoy contemporary music, theater and dance at The Ringling, as performers will present seven compelling perspectives on beauty, innovation and artistry found in Asian Cultures. With paid admission, attendees also receive admission to Jazz Sunsets and Gatehouse Gatherings, along with free entry to the galleries and gardens throughout the festival.
Celebrate outdoor sun and fun in nearby Venice with the annual Sun Fiesta, which will be held all weekend long at Centennial Park. Live bands, bed races and parade, crowning of Ms. Fiesta, a pancake breakfast, arts and craft and more will make for a good time on the island.
On October 17-18, you can check out the Vintage and Collectibles Fair held at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium. Exhibitors will be showcasing antiques, books and lots of collectibles. The event is only $3 for adults and that includes both days. Children under 12 are admitted free.
Come out and support a worthy cause while enjoying samples of chili as The Sarasota Firefighter’s Benevolent Fund hosts the 16th Annual Morton’s Firehouse Chili Cook-off. Fifteen area firehouses will be represented and several local celebrity judges have signed on to judge the competition.
And while we’re on the subject of delectable foods, the Art of Foods Festival, held at Selby Public Library, will feature 18 of Sarasota’s best chefs serving their inspired culinary creations. Music, live performances and a fashion show featuring costumes by the Asolo Repertory Theatre will cap off the evening. The event is hosted by the Junior League of Sarasota.
If you are in need of comedic relief, you can catch funny guy Jamie Kennedy all weekend at McCurdy Comedy Club. If you haven’t gotten your fill of pumpkins, hayrides and corn mazes, there are plenty of those happenings around town this weekend also.If you just need some sun therapy, then step out and enjoy just a small sample of all that Sarasota offers.
