We’re a week into the hustle and bustle of December and hopefully you are enjoying this holiday season. What a lovely place to live and to spend the holidays, where true indoor/outdoor living and 365-days-a-year enjoyment is our way of life. And this weekend’s events promise to deliver several Florida-style happenings to keep your outlook merry and your holidays burning especially bright.
Dec. 9 – Daily through December 27th Sarasota Holiday Lights Trolley Tour 6:30 PM & 8:30 PM
Carrying on with another Sarasota-infused activity is the Sarasota Trolley Holiday Lights Tour through December 27th. There are two departures daily, 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. You’ll swing by the best and brightest holiday homes around Sarasota in a nostalgic open-air trolley. Have your northern visitors leave their snow boots behind, because in Florida, we wear our flip-flops when we go out to see the holiday lights! Dec. 9, 10 & 11 Sarasota Orchestra performance of Snow Globe
Despite a couple of sold-out shows, tickets still remain for performances of Snow Globe by the Sarasota Orchestra. Enjoy great holiday standards like The Nutcracker, Carol of the Bells, The Snow Maiden, and The Holly, to name a few, performed with the exquisite sounds and melodies that the Sarasota Orchestra delivers. Dec. 11th Live from Downtown Sarasota, Burns Court 6:00 PM
Begin your Friday chant with Live from Downtown, it’s Friday Night, coming at you each Friday from different Sarasota neighborhoods. This week, the celebration takes place at Burns Court where you can shop, dine, and wine with the accompaniment of participating merchants and restaurants staying open to accommodate the fun. Enjoy live performances musicians, entertainers and performing arts organizations. Holiday Lights Spectacular will be dazzling attendees at Sarasota Jungle Gardens. Don’t miss the explosion of lights as you stroll down the “Candy Cane Lane,” experiencing time-honored holiday traditions. Roast marshmallows, enjoy live entertainment, and snap merry photos of your family in the beautiful gardens. The petting zoo and beloved birds of Jungle Garden will be on hand and there will be food and drinks available for purchase. Add fresh flowers to your list, because you know they give your holiday table a little more cheer. And speaking of cheer, consider picking up an extra bouquet for a neighbor or friend who might be in need of a special recognition this giving season. Dec. 12th - 13th Atomic Holiday Bazaar Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM
For perfect gift options, visit the Atomic Holiday Bazaar at Sarasota Municipal Auditorium this weekend. Find one-of-a-kind unique and Indie-inspired art at this regionally-popular event. Great gift options including lotions, stationery, sculptures, upcycled items, photography, jewelry, and just about everything in between will be available. Be sure to attend and support some of the most talented crafters in the area. Admission is $5 for adults, 12 and under are free.
Dec. 12 – Sarasota Holiday Boat Parade of Lights
Rounding out a jam-packed weekend of events is the Sarasota Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, returning Saturday, for the 30th time since making its debut in 1985. You will not be disappointed as a spectacle of beautiful boats and yachts light up the waterways with thousands of lights, grand decorations and awe-inspiring holiday grandeur. The best viewing areas will be at Marina Jacks, Bayfront Park, City Island and Centennial Park. You will not want to miss the action so be sure to get there early and prepare to be amazed.
