Siesta Key Beach Receives $21.5 Million of Improvements

The new improvements to Siesta Key Beach are drawing up a lot of controversy.

Siesta BeachThis face-life to Sarasota’s jewel—Siesta Key Beach—is expected to last for two years and will include an updating of parking, restrooms, landscaping and amenities along with the construction of a 15-food wide esplanade, playground, new concessions building, picnic shelters and the restoration of the famous historic Siesta Beach pavilion.

To kick off the process, county officials along with over 75 supporters of the Siesta Beach improvements joined together on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 for a groundbreaking ceremony.

Of course, along with the supporters come those who are less supportive. No doubt any changes come with viewpoints from two sides. Some residents don’t like the fact that the construction will last for so long and others don’t like how the construction will affect wildlife; still others don’t agree because of the noise and inconvenience.
