When there’s a storm in the Gulf of Mexico, surfers come from all round to surf the waves breaking on North Jetty Beach in Nokomis. Actually, the beach has comers all year round, as it is one of the most special beaches in the area. Located at the very southern tip of Casey Key, the north jetty is actually one of two parallel jetties, the southern portion being across the channel at the northern end of Venice Island. The jetties offer excellent fishing, as well as possibly the most reliable dolphin and manatee sighting opportunities in the area; and the jetties also provide protected coves for the kids to swim and to dig through piles of seashells. There are picnic areas and a playground as well.
